10 Things Elegant Woman Wear - How to dress classy and elegant
The founder of The Australian Finishing School has listed things ‘elegant women’ never wear and also in the same vain what they do wear.
Elegance is defined as ‘the quality of being graceful and stylish in appearance and manner.’ Therefore an elegant woman can be defined as someone who carries herself with poise in a sophisticated and fashionable way. The purpose of this guide is not to give you a step by step by step tutorial into carrying yourself with grace and poise. Rather, my purpose is to take you through the simple steps of finding the perfect style for you in order to accentuate your natural grace and poise, enabling you to present yourself as an elegant woman.
If you're trying to be elegant, start by wearing classic styles of clothing, like knee-length skirts and tailored button-down shirts, and choosing clothes made from high-quality fabrics, like silk and satin.
Never too baggy, never too tight; the clothing of an elegant woman looks like it was made to fit just her. Try luxe jersey and stretch fabrics if you're on a budget, if you're able to splurge then get everything tailored to fit your measurements. Nothing says elegance like a perfectly fitted blazer or tuxedo trousers.
1. Activewear: wearing gym clothes when you’re not doing sports. People have become lazy and they don’t make that effort to get up earlier in the morning. Get your exercise done and change into proper clothes and do your hair to be presentable. No proper lady wears sports clothes when she is not doing sports no matter how comfortable it may be.
2. No crop tops. They are juvenile and can look very cheap. Showing too much skin especially around the stomach is not elegant.
3. Writing all of T-shirts’ cartoons and pictures all over clothing. It’s tacky and childish, it does not make you look ladylike
4. Ripped jeans and shorts. Unless you are going for a beach or casual look it is not sophisticated
5. Denim shorts. Opt for white shorts or white jeans for a more expensive look
6. Handbags with wear and tear.
7. Wrinkled clothing or hanging threads. It shows disregard for you clothing. Invest in a hand held steamer.
8. Bulky cheap looking jewellery. Always wear accessories especially small and discrete. High quality gold and white gold looks best. Such as a Cartier bracelet and diamond earrings.
9. Stop wearing jeans. Invest in pants, get them tailored or opt for skirts. It’s more feminine and elegant.
10. Classy women do not wear sandals in winter conditions.

Classy styling is timeless. The navy shift dress and nude/ camel-colored pumps you buy today will still be wearable ten years from now. Buying one good pair of pearl/diamond stud earrings outweighs the 10 pairs of trendy statement earrings that will be passé a year after you buy them. Having a sophisticated and classy style means that you can wear your outfits to work, Sunday brunch, a city shopping trip, or traveling the world.
Bold patterns and prints can definitely work in a sophisticated and classy look, but you may not be comfortable with such patterns if you are just beginning on your classy style journal. Neutrals are your friend in this case. Solids are plentiful in the stores (and probably your closet), easily combined, and help to stretch your wardrobe.
Typical neutrals are white/beige/cream, navy blue, black, and gray. Now, don’t think you have to dress head-to-toe in black (or other neutral). Monochromatic (different shades or tints of the same color) allow you to vary a color but remain classy.
